Colposcopy

At Southern Indiana Family Practice Center, we care about preventive healthcare and one of the services we offer is a colposcopy as part of screening for cervical cancer. A typical cervical cancer screening, known as Pap test or Pap smear, can sometimes come back with abnormal results.

It is important to note that abnormal results are common and do not necessarily mean you have cancer or precancerous cells. Sometimes your outside factors such as your menstrual cycle can interfere, so often follow-up tests are required. We may recommend a colposcopy if your recent Pap smear has come back abnormal.

What is a colposcopy?
A colposcopy is a procedure where we use a magnifying instrument known as a colposcope to examine your cervix.

It begins similarly to a Pap smear, where a speculum is used to spread the vaginal walls to achieve a better view of the cervix. A solution may be applied to the cervix to make it easier for abnormal cells to be seen. The colposcope does not enter your body but instead is used to view abnormal cells with a bright light and magnifying lens.

A tissue sample, or biopsy, may be conducted for additional testing. Patients may feel a slight pinch when the sample is taken.

The procedure itself is usually completed within 10 minutes.

What happens after your exam?
Some spotting may occur after the colposcopy but should stop within 24-48 hours. If it worsens or persists, please contact your doctor immediately.

Your results will be available anywhere within 2-4 weeks and your doctor will review them with you to discuss any future action that may be necessary.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Southern Indiana Family Practice Center is proud to offer platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy to our patients. PRP has continued to grow as a reliable way to effectively treat sexual dysfunction, and even has aesthetic applications such as improving overall skin and hair health.

How does it work?

Our blood predominantly consists of plasma, which carries red and white blood cells and platelets. PRP is created by drawing some of the patient’s own blood and then using a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets within a sample of the plasma. This concentrated sample of platelets is then combined with the original blood sample. We can then inject this platelet-rich blood into the treatment area. While results may not occur immediately, many women experience improved sensitivity, functionality, and muscle tone while improving the performance of sexual function and bladder control.

If you have questions about platelet-rich plasma therapy or would like to schedule an appointment, contact our office at 812-339-6744.

IUD Placement

At Southern Indiana Family Practice Center, we understand that your choice of birth control is a personal one. We offer a wide range of contraception options and will help find one that is right for you and your lifestyle.

While some people prefer the familiarity of pills, the convenience of an IUD or implant may be more appealing to others.

IUD placement is performed within our office and is a simple procedure that only takes a few minutes of your time. Using a speculum, we can spread your vaginal walls for better access to your cervix, the opening of the uterus. The IUD is then inserted through the cervix and embedded into the uterus.

You may feel a slight pinch during the placement but otherwise should not experience any discomfort or pain.

A plastic tail is attached to the IUD and extends into the vagina. We recommend ensuring the tail is in place before having sex for maximum protection.

The IUD works by making the uterus inhospitable to host sperm and increasing your body’s production of cervical mucus to make it difficult for sperm to reach the egg.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Penile Injection Shot

The PRP penile injection shot is known for utilizing blood-derived factors to rejuvenate the penis. Here at Southern Indiana Family Practice Center, we are proud to offer these services to our male clients.

The PRP penile injection shot is an excellent option for men who have lost function due to health complications such as prostate cancer, diabetes, or other conditions that impact sexual performance and function. The treatment lasts only about 15 minutes and uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from a sample of the patient’s blood to help promote the growth of new cells and rejuvenate damaged tissue.

Results will vary from patient to patient, but most experience firmer, longer-lasting erections, increased sensitivity during sexual activity, and an increase in the length and girth of the penis.

Please contact us at (812)-228-1506 for more information or to make an appointment.

PRP Orgasmic Dysfunction shots

The PRP orgasmic dysfunction shot utilizes blood-derived factors to help rejuvenate the vagina, helping women with urinary incontinence and sexual performance issues. Here at Southern Indiana Family Practice Center, we are proud to provide this option to our female clients.

The PRP orgasmic dysfunction shot is a great treatment option for women experiencing decreased sex drive, urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, chronic vaginal pain (from childbirth or mesh), or chronic interstitial cystitis. During treatment, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is injected into the clitoris, labia, and G-spot to promote healing of damaged tissue and growth of new blood vessels and nerves.

Results will vary from patient to patient, but many experience an ease in urinary incontinence, increased sexual desire and arousal, increased vaginal lubrication, heightened orgasm, and relief from chronic pain associated with childbirth mesh, and interstitial cystitis. The PRP orgasmic dysfunction shot has also been used to treat lichen sclerosus and lichen planus.
